Western US Transmission Study Demands 12,600 Mile Grid Overhaul by 2035

Monday, March 2, 2026

The West-Wide Transmission Study released February 4th identifies massive infrastructure gaps requiring over 12,600 miles of new high-voltage transmission lines by 2035. This represents the most comprehensive regional grid expansion plan to date, driven by renewable integration needs and load growth rather than just reliability concerns.

Transmission bottlenecks are the primary constraint on renewable deployment at scale. This study provides the regulatory roadmap for unlocking stranded clean energy capacity across multiple Western states.
